bill hicks bio

there a new book out (just in the u.k. so far) about bill hicks, the smartest, funniest comedian of the post-pryor generation (and a texan, too, goddammit), penned by his friend/producer kevin booth. looks like a goodun. thanks to jeff liles for the coat-pull.

oh, you are surely correct. this book is the definitive final word on senor hicks.

not sure how, but i actually ordered a copy of this from amazon some time back in early 2006. i remember cause i recall reading it during the early days of the wife being w/ child. mine was a UK import too and it ended up costing me some 40+ bones for the hardcover. it's incredible and the pictures therein are top notch. a heavy read.

hicks' self-penned "love all the people" is pretty special too. it's like a how-to for people trying to make some sense in this wild life. very inspiring.

so funny that you posted this because i was just reading that bill's ma, mary, will be on the letterman show friday jan. 30th. as rumor has it, dave will (supposedly) FINALLY be showing the famous footage that the network brass scissored from broadcast back in 1993. i guess some of bill's material didn't jibe w/ their conservative leanings. all he wanted was the tape of the performance, which the show never sent him. i'm hoping dave (finally) makes things right and hands that footage to his ma.

i loved how he'd introduce himself on stage: "my name is william melvin hicks... thanks, dad!"

rest in peace funny man...
