And get off my digital lawn, you kids!

In all seriousness: I've read an interesting corollary theory that says the nonverbal detachment GenY and beyond have embraced will ultimately reduce the amount of CROSS-cultural misunderstanding they will encounter in the future. They will face more problems communicating with older members of their own culture than with the corresponding generations in other cultures. The increasing non-verbalization of interpersonal communication reduces information transfer between individuals down to the actual information, without all the associated culture-specific encoding.

Not sure if I buy it, but I've read it in several places.
